We know the weather has been crazy but warm weather is indeed coming.  You don’t want to wait until you NEED your AC to find out it isn’t working properly.  A decision that you are forced into makes having no air conditioning more stressful than it needs to be.  Utilize the list below you can get in front of the situation and make an educated decision as to whether the time is right to take advantage of some amazing financing offers and upgrade to a brand new system or if it makes sense to wait a year or two.

  • How Old Is Your Current AC?
As a general rule, if you Air Conditioning system is less than 10 years old, making repairs is the way to go.  If your system is older than 10 years, you should serious consider replacing it!  Older systems use more energy and utilize out of date refrigerants that are harmful to the environment.
  • What Is The Condition Of Your AC?
If your AC is having minor issues such as low air flow or drain lines that are blocked, go ahead and call for service.  However, if the issues are on the major side like an issue with the compressor or the motor, it may be time to upgrade to a new system.
  • How Often Are You Calling For Repairs?
If you have had to call for repairs more than 2 times in the last 10 years, or if you have the constantly add refrigerant to the system consider having it replaced.  Another thing to consider is that if the repair you need would equate to a cost that is more than 25% of the cost for a brand new system, the time may be right for an upgrade.
  • Are Your Monthly Utility Bills Increasing?
Take a moment to compare this year’s average monthly utility cost to last year’s average utility cost.  If you see an increase of more than 10%, upgrading your system may be worth it in the long run.  Newer Air Conditioning systems are more energy efficient than an older, outdated system.
  • Does Your AC Adequately Cool Your Home?
If you find that some rooms do not get as cool as the rest, your current system may not be sized properly for your home.  Calling in an HVAC professional who will utilize state of the art tools to evaluate your home and make sure your heating and cooling system is sized properly may be a good idea.  You should also consider calling for support from an HVAC professional if you have recently put an addition on your home.  These are great reasons to consider an upgrade!

Now is the time to evaluate your HVAC system and make an educated decision about your Air Conditioning System.  If you have any questions or need more information on any of the items we addressed above, please give us a call at 845-342-8133.
