With Spring in full gear, warmer temperatures will be here before you know it! When the time comes to turn on your Air Conditioner, we hope you find that it is working well to keep you cool. Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case, so we’ve compiled a shortlist of common issues we see when it comes to Central Air Conditioners that aren’t working properly.
Review the list below so you will be familiar with some of the challenges homeowners often face with their central air conditioner and some proactive things you can do to help prevent issues.
- The Air Conditioner Won’t Turn On
When it comes time to flip that ON switch to get some relief from warm outdoor temperatures, you fully expect for something to happen! What if it doesn’t? One common thing we hear when people call for service is that the AC won’t turn on. Be sure to check for simple issues before giving us a call, sometimes it is something as simple as thermostat batteries that are dead or a circuit breaker that is tripped. - The Air Conditioner Is Not Blowing Cold Air
We often get calls from people who claim their air conditioner is taking too long to cool off the home or is blowing no cold air at all. Either way, it’s a problem that needs to be addressed. One thing we suggest is to be sure you are changing your air filters frequently. An AC will not blow cold air if a dirty air filter is blocking the airflow. Sometimes a dirty air filter can add to issues with the condenser, causing it to freeze up and limiting its ability to cool your home. - The Air Conditioner Is Noisy
There are many reasons for an air conditioner to make noises. If you hear clicking sounds when turning on and off the unit, and it is not working properly, that could be a relay issue. Bumping, rattling, or banging could indicate issues with your motor or blower issues. Buzzing could point to an electrical issue. Screeching sounds could be the compressor. Whatever the sounds, it’s a good idea to give a professional a call to properly diagnose and if possible, repair the issue. - The Air Conditioner Is Leaking
Any leak coming from your central Air Conditioning unit indicates an issue. There could be a blocked drainpipe, issues with your condensate plate or maybe low refrigerant levels. If you are concerned about a leak around your air conditioning unit, the best thing you can do is to turn the unit off and give us a call! We would be happy to assess the issue.
